Initial Consultation
Legal situations don't have standard answers. In an initial consultation, I don't just listen to the facts — I give you a full strategic picture.
I will walk you through the realistic options in your case: the risks of litigation, your negotiating position, and the most effective path forward. Many clients tell me that what gave them the most peace of mind was finally understanding the full landscape of their situation.
I will not let clients enter proceedings without a clear strategy. My goal is to ensure you make the most rational decision with complete information in hand.
Billed in 6-minute units. 30 minutes constitutes one complete consultation.

Limited Retainer
What Is a Limited Retainer?
A limited retainer means retaining a lawyer for a specific, defined task rather than handing over the entire matter. The retainer agreement specifies exactly what is covered, and representation ends once that task is complete.
This arrangement is appropriate in situations such as:
- Self-represented clients who need a lawyer to prepare specific documents or navigate a particular court step
- Clients who need a lawyer present at a single hearing or conference, but not for full representation
- Clients who need a lawyer to review documents submitted by the opposing party and provide a written legal opinion
- Matters nearing conclusion that only require assistance with a final legal step
A limited retainer allows clients to control costs while obtaining professional legal support at critical junctures. If you are considering self-representation but are uncertain about specific steps, feel free to ask whether this arrangement might suit your situation.
About Disbursements
Disbursements are third-party costs paid on your behalf in the course of handling your matter. They are separate from legal fees and itemized clearly on your invoice.
- Application filing fee — $224
- Affidavit for Divorce filing fee — $445
- Divorce Certificate application fee — $25
- Process server fees
- Document notarization and certification
- Expert reports (e.g. business valuations by a Chartered Business Valuator)
- Translation and interpretation fees
The court fees above reflect current Ontario rates and are subject to change per court announcements. All disbursements are itemized transparently on your invoice — no hidden charges of any kind.
